Certificate in HR Management

The Certificate in Human Resource Management is designed to introduce Human Resource Practitioners to the fundamentals of local employment laws in the Cayman Islands, as well as the basic theory of Human Resource Management.

The programme is designed for:

  • those who are new to the field of Human Resources and want a good foundation in the profession
  • the more seasoned HR professional who wishes to refresh his/her knowledge.
  • persons in the field of HR who do not already have any relevant qualifications.

The course titles:

The program consists of four (4) modules/workshops, some lasting a full day and some lasting only half-day. Participants can opt to attend the individual courses or to complete the full program.

When all four courses have been attended, participants can then sit the Certification Exam to receive the Certificate in Human Resource Management.

  • Essentials of Human Resource Management 101
  • Labour Law 101
  • Health and Pension 101
  • Immigration 101

Program Objectives:

By the end of this program, participants will understand the:

  • Fundamental principles of Human Resource Management needed for performing their jobs on a day‐to‐day basis
  • Immigration process and the impact of the Immigration Law on their organisation
  • Function of the Department of Employment Relations, as well as the current Labour Law of the Cayman Islands and be able to integrate its requirements into their day‐to‐day operations
  • Health Insurance Law of the Cayman Islands and be able to ensure that their organisation is in compliance with its requirements
  • Pension Law of the Cayman Islands and be able to ensure that their organisation is in compliance with its requirements

Examination & Pass Grades

  • When participants have attended all 4 courses, they will then be eligible to sit the HR Certification Exam to receive their certification.
  • Examinations are scheduled twice yearly.
  • There is no fee for the exam once the participant has sat all 4 courses within a 12 month period
  • The pass mark is 70%
  • Those not reaching a successful 70% passing grade, are eligible to re-sit the exam for free at any future scheduled exam session within 12 months of the original exam.
  • For those wishing to re-sit the exam after the 12-month period, the re-sit fee is CI$100.
  • Those wishing to re-take the class modules would need to register and pay as normal.  It is recommended that due to changes to laws and therefore the course content, courses should be retaken if the exam is not successfully passed within 24 months of completing the courses.
  • Private Exam or Class sessions are unfortunately not available due to the cost of the facility and time of the moderator.
