Thursday evening saw the 7th Annual Top Employer & 2nd Annual CAHRE (Cayman Awards HR Excellence) awards take place to great fanfare at the Marriott Hotel. From being applauded into the room by the current board of the Cayman Islands HR Society, the energy levels were set to max and the audience of some 200 people were treated to awards by the host Matt Brown.
The Top Employer awards are aimed at shining a light on employers who go above and beyond to make their places of work a great place to be, as the President of the HR Society Chris Bailey said in his opening address, “it is more than doing the bare minimum as required by law”. The companies named as Top Employers are known employers who prioritize career growth, corporate and social responsibility, promote ethical values and are transparent as to the standard they hold themselves to. Just by applying for these awards, these companies have already set themselves apart. An independent panel of Judges mark the companies as well as taking into account a confidential survey completed by staff of the firms. From considering these factors, our Judges ascertain if the company really is a Top Employers!
A record number of companies took part this year and in his address to the audience, Mr. Bailey commented that human capital is our most important asset in making successful companies and he was delighted that so many employers are using this award to measure themselves.
The event was attended by The Honorable Deputy Governor Mr. Franz Manderson. Mr. Manderson received the CAHRE award on behalf of CIG for best community and CSR initiative for the DG 5k run.
Past President of the society, Mr. Phil Jackson, was also recognised for his contributions since the award’s inception and in his address, touched on the possibility of the awards being part of wider consideration in government departments, such as the Department of Immigration, when recognizing the employers who go above and beyond.
Congratulations to all the recipients!
